Mingas with Orchestra Marrabenta in 1987.
The song was written by the legendary Mozambican singer/musician Fany Mfumo. Like so many other Mozambican men, Fany Mfumo spent long periods living and working in neighboring South Africa.
The song is about his longings for the women back home in Mozambique, while he had to stay in South Africa. It was written in 'Ronga', which is spoken in the Maputo region of Mozambique.
The title, 'Ava Sati Va Lomu' literally means 'the women here', and ends up being an ode to 'Cecilia', a Mozambican woman. The lyrics follow Mozambican story-telling traditions, rich in symbolism and indirect references...
